Intro to Writing for Creatives

Course Description

We write for many reasons. Some of us write for an audience. Some, for ourselves. Some of us write to heal, others, to create beauty. Others write for still other reasons. I personally write for all of these reasons. What calls you to writing? And what has kept you from it? What scares you? You are a creative person and this class is for you if it's been forever since you’ve written more than an Instagram post, journal entry, or email. You know you have a story, an essay, or even a book in you. Maybe it’s for publication, maybe it’s for your family. Or maybe it’s just for you and nobody else. Guess what? You’ve come to the right place to get started or re-acquainted with this important part of yourself. This is the class that won't feel like a class that will get you writing in the way you know you were meant to. In these sessions, we'll do three things: reading, listening, and writing. Come with an open mind, an open heart, and a brand-new notebook and pen or a computer. In this class we’ll read but not study, we’ll share but not workshop, and we will generate, generate, generate words and ideas to keep the words flowing long after class is over. We will read some of the greats of creative writing craft and process like Anne Lamott, Melissa Febos, Matthew Salesses, David Mura and others about what they say about how to do it, when do to it, why to do it, and how to keep going in a way that works for you—no matter what.
