Course Description

Did you just know in your bones about something related to your trauma? Was your trauma pre-verbal or early enough in your life that you can’t quite remember it but you “just knew” something was wrong before you were told because you could feel it? Did you force yourself to “forget” even when your body could not? Do you carry the stress of your trauma in your gut and have serious GI issues? Or has your pain manifested itself in other ways: in your neck, in your back, or with addictions, chronic pain, migraines, or eating disorders? Were you impulsive sexually or unable to be touched? Did you abuse your body in some other way? Did you seek medical help and were you told you were fine when you knew you weren’t? Let’s write about what our bodies know that even our minds could not articulate for so long. Let’s find a way to put words on the page and begin the process of connecting mind, body, and heart with who we are and always have been. This five-week class is appropriate for all levels of memoir and creative nonfiction writers. It is an intentionally small group so we can come together in as safe and trusting a space as possible. We will share and there is an option to gently workshop in an inclusive, actively antiracist and antiableist fashion, learning to provide gentle and helpful feedback and receiving same. You will come away after the five weeks with at least one essay drafted and revised and with ideas generated for at least two others. Payment by Venmo to @Aimee-Christian or PayPal to aimee.nicole.christian@gmail.com or Zelle to my phone number (please ask).
