Personal Writing for Creatives: Level II

Course Description

We write for many reasons. Some write for an audience, for publication. Others, for ourselves or our children. Some of us write to heal, others, to create beauty. What calls you to writing? And what has kept you from it? What scares you about telling your truth? You are a person who has some pages already and you have some experience with memoir. You've taken a couple of writing classes or you feel ready to hold your own with other writers because your story is that big or your determination is that strong. If you aren't sure you fit this description, feel free to reach out to me at thewriteaimee@gmail.com. I'm happy to share the syllabus with you. This is a class that will feel like a community. In this intermediate level class, we will read excerpts from contemporary memoir, study craft, and practice what we learn in writing exercises that we'll share in class. For homework you will prepare 2 - 3 pieces for workshop in class. You will have established a writing practice that is sustainable and a sense of literary citizenship so that whatever your next step is, whether it is another class, a writing group, or independent work, you will keep the words flowing long after class is over.
