I believe in forming and participating in a community of writers. When I teach, I see myself as a facilitator and guide, committed to creating a supportive and productive atmosphere for writers of every level. I work to ensure that everyone has a voice and that both class and workshop are conducted in a way that works to be actively antiracist, antiableist, and inclusive. While no space can be truly safe, I pull my Master of Education, adult curriculum design training, and facilitation training together with the many books I’ve read like Craft in the Real World, The Antiracist Writing Workshop, and others, to better listen, observe, and create trust. My two-decade long career in community veterinary medicine has helped me understand historically excluded communities and how best to lift up voices of those who have been silenced for so long. I offer aid or waive tuition to my students who need it, especially to Black, queer, and disabled emerging writers. I work to help my students and clients build trust in the room, find their voices, and the confidence to use them.
