Course Description
Advanced Personal Writing Workshop 6 weeks, intensive 3 hours/week (Tuesdays 6 - 9 pm ET) max 9 students You’re someone who already has pages. Maybe you’ve drafted essays or chapters. Maybe you’ve taken a couple writing classes. Maybe someone read your work and said, “You better be working on a memoir.” Either way: your material is real, and you’re ready for the kind of workshop where serious writers help you organize it, sharpen it, and shape it into something bigger. If you aren’t sure you fit this description but the workshop still speaks to you, you’re still welcome. Email me at thewriteaimee@gmail.com—I’m happy to share the syllabus and help you decide. This class is built to feel like a community. In this advanced level workshop, we’ll read one contemporary memoir, study craft, and practice what we learn by workshopping our writing and looking at published work for examples of craft in action. How it works • This is an intensive six-week course that meets for 3 hours each week. • We workshop no more than two writers per week, so the feedback stays deep and useful. • Each student is workshopped once during the session. • You’ll submit up to 50 pages (preferably contiguous, but it’s not required). What you’ll receive • A thoughtful editorial letter from each of your fellow students • An instructor editorial letter addressing your full submission (up to 50 pages) • Instructor line edits on up to 15 pages (in tracked changes) Optional add-on • $200: instructor line edits on the remaining pages beyond the included 15 (up to 50 pages total), using tracked changes. We workshop deeply and intentionally, in an actively inclusive, writer-focused, anti-ableist, anti-racist way. The goal is thoughtful revision and editing—feedback you can actually use—while protecting your voice and your agency on the page. By the end, you’ll have a substantial section of your book workshopped, a clear revision plan, and a community that can help you keep going. Tuition: $650 Early bird: $50 off if you book more than 30 days before the start date (use code EARLYBIRD50). Payment: Venmo, Zelle, or PayPal. A $150 deposit holds your spot; contact me for a payment plan or financial aid if needed.
